Do I Need to Hire a "Local" Website Designer?

How Long Does it Take to Have My Website Developed?
The timescale of a website design project is often dictated by the client. If you have a deadline in mind we will endeavor to meet it for you. The most common delay in the creation and completion of a new website is waiting for content (text/images) to be sent to us. The more prepared you are with your content for your website (unless we are writing your content etc.) the more efficiently the design and development process will be for your project.
On average, we complete a website with up to 20 pages and standard functionality/features within 3-10 days (range due to communication and feedback from client). We can and often do, create websites with the same specifications mentioned in 24-72 hours.
Bottom line is: the more prepared you are, the more efficient the design and development process is to complete.
What is Website Maintenance?
Most good websites have new content updated regularly; either new pages, new blog posts, promos and specials or even just company news. Fresh content is what will keep your visitors coming back and new content will always help with search engine rankings. We provide website maintenance at an hourly rate or as an optional monthly service for our clients. Our monthly website maintenance packages provide a reduced hourly rate so that you receive more bang for your buck. If you want to maintain your website yourself you can do so, however we have found that most of our clients prefer to focus on what they do best (running their business) and leaving the website maintenance to a website design firm like Creative Designs.
We offer website maintenance as both a fee paid monthly or on an hourly rate on a project to project basis. Why Can't I Find My Website in Search Engines?
Most search engines crawl the web pretty quicky and will index your website in a few days or weeks. Of course the crawl rate differs from one search engine to the next, the most popular ones such as Google, Bing, and Yahoo index new websites in a few days in most cases.
If you would like to speed up the process and let search engines know that your website exists and should be indexed you can submit your website to each one manually. If you perform a search for your website in a search engine and do not see your website listed, this does not necessarily mean that your website is not indexed. You may be searching for your website using keywords that your website is not optimized for, which would explain why you cannot find your website listed in the search index.
There is a big difference between having your website indexed and having your website show up for specific keywords. There can often be a lot of competition for keywords and your website may appear further down the list (for example: on page 2, 3, or even further). If you want your website to appear in the top of the list for specific keywords then you have to optimize your website for search engines, build links to your site, and add unique and relevant content among other things.

What is a Domain Name?
A domain name is your website address (ie. yourwebsite.com). They can be purchased from a variety of places online and they range in price depending on the extension (.ca, .com, .org etc.) and the domain name registrar you choose. What is Website Hosting and Do I Need it for My Website?
Basically what happens is when you type a website address into the address bar of your browser, your browser sends out a request to 'get' that web page. The request travels across the internet to the appropriate web server and attempts to locate the web page on that server. If the request is successful (web page exists) then that web page will load (or download) into your web browser for viewing.
Every website requires hosting in order to be accessible on the internet.
There are many different specifications for website hosting accounts such as bandwidth (your website traffic), storage space (amount of storage room for your files), email accounts, FTP accounts, databases etc. The specific requirements for hosting of websites differ greatly although there are many commonalities among the websites of most small businesses.

Can I Use My Own Web Hosting if You Create My Website?
Yes, you can use any web host you like to host your website. Once your website has been completed you can provide us with your web hosting FTP login username and password so that we can upload your website for you. Furthermore, if we have created a dynamic, database-driven website for your business then you will need to send us your database login credentials so that we can install and setup your database for your website.
We will of course take a look at your current hosting setup to see if there are any improvements we can suggest or money that we can save you for your website hosting and file storage.
Do You Offer Any Discounts on Your Services & Products?
Yes, we offer discounts for schools and non-profit organizations. Also, you will find several discounts and specials during certain periods of the year for various products and services.

Do I Have to Provide a Business or Tax License Number?
No, you do not have to show or possess a business or tax license to have your website designed, order printing products, or sign up for one of our website solutions or products. Although it is not a requirement to have a business or tax license to operate a website, it is a requirement for running a business in most countries, provinces, and states, and we recommend obtaining one from your governmental or state institution so that you can legally operate your business and take advantage of the benefits that come with a registered business.
Creative Designs is a registered and licensed business and we do collect HST from our clients for services and products where applicable.
Do We Need to Have an In-Person Meeting to Discuss My Project?
With the conveniences of modern technology, meetings are not necessary for working on most projects although we do like to meet as many of our clients in person as possible. We work with clients from all over the world and are very efficient at determining exactly what you need to achieve your goals and complete your project.
We make sure that we communicate with you regularly to discuss your project and we can take advantage of online meeting services to ensure that your project is completed exactly as you wish.
In What Format Should I Supply My Website Content?
It is helpful to us if you are able to provide text and photographs in electronic form - for example, the files output by a digital camera and the text in Microsoft Word or similar format. If this is not possible, we can help get your information ready for use on the web.
Photographic images should be at least 72 dpi resolution in RGB format but it is not required to exceed this resolution for the web. If you are ordering some of our printing products, we require a resolution of at least 300 dpi in CMYK format.
Text can be sent in Microsoft Word, PDF, Plain text, or email formats. We will not accept other types of documents without charging a conversion fee of $25 per document to make the content web-ready.
Video destined for the web should be sent in either AVI, WMV, SWF, FLV, MP4, or MPEG formats with a high-quality resolution. Video size, orientation, and format should be appropriate to what your desired specifications are for placement on the website. Of course you can always send us a YouTube link for your video and we can embed your video within your website.

Will My Website be Search Engine Friendly?
All of our websites are created with search engines in mind. We make sure that the coding behind your website adheres to the most popular search engine guidelines and is easy to read, find, and index for search engines. How Do I Update My Website?
There are many different methods which can be used to update websites. The method you choose and the functionality we build into your website design is solely up to you. If you would like to do the updates on your own then we can setup a content management system (CMS) for you that will allow you to update your website with little technical knowledge and training. If you prefer to have our professional website design firm take care of your website updates so that you can continue to spend your time effectively managing your business then we can take care of all of your website update needs within your budget.
If you have a small website consisting of just a few pages and will only wish to make changes very infrequently, then usually it is more cost effective to have Creative Designs carry out these changes for you. Other methods which are frequently chosen are largely dependent upon how much data or information and pictures you have and how you store this information at present.
Do I Need a Database for My Website?
This will depend upon the amount of information you wish to be displayed on your website, how you would like to perform website updates and maintenance, and the dynamic features you may need. If you have many products or services, then it may be advantageous to have a database incorporated into your website design so that you can easily manage inventory, prices, or update page content. We will discuss this in detail with you and if a database is advised we will explain in detail exactly how this will work, what it will cost, and how to manage your dynamic website going forward. We can tailor your website design to suit your specific requirements, no matter what your project needs may be or the level of complexity your website requires.
Will My Website Look the Same in All Browsers?
Your website visitors will see some things differently depending on their browser, screen resolution setting and their individual computer settings and toolbars. Of course as technology alters then eventually all websites may need to be updated in order to be cross-browser compliant.

Do You Guarantee My Website Will Always be Available?
Yes we guarantee that your website will have a 99.9% up-time year round if you are hosting with us.
Due to factors beyond our control we cannot guarantee 100% up-time (for example: weather related issues). However we can say that our servers have had 100% up time for many years. Should our servers have any problems we do have the necessary backups in place to deal with down time issues very quickly and our data centre has several back up servers that will kick in and display your website should something happen beyond our control. We regularly upgrade our security configurations for our web servers. During these upgrades your website may briefly become unavailable (usually for 3-4 minutes) while we install new hardware/software. All of our hardware/software upgrades take place between the hours of 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. EST (usually on a Sunday/Monday night) so that the possibility of your website visitors attempting to access your website is far less likely. In most cases, we do send our clients notification prior to upgrades so that you can anticipate the possibility of a 3-4 minute down time.
Do You Use Flash Animation in Your Website Design?
Occasionally, although we try to avoid Flash for your website in all cases. There are some instances where Flash is very beneficial. For example, displaying rich media and video is often best done through Flash technologies.
It is important to note that there are times when flash animations can be an asset but it would be unwise to use "flash" to create an entire website or even entire pages of your website as search engines are not able to read the content of flash and therefore any words used in animations will not be indexed by the search engines. Additionally, there are many devices on the market that have trouble or simply cannot display Flash.
Do I Get Email Addresses With My Website & Hosting?
Yes we provide unlimited email addresses with all of our hosting accounts. Even if you are hosting with another provider, we can help you setup your professional email address.
Can I See How Many Visitors Come to My Website?
Yes we provide web tracking software which records where you visitors are coming from and which pages they looked at, which search engines are being used, which phrases are being typed into which search engines and many more interesting web tracking facts which you should find useful for future marketing campaigns.

Can You Secure My Website?

How Can I Accept Credit Cards on My Website?
There are various methods available to you. We would need to talk to you to established you requirements and the best method for your company. There are essentially two main methods of accepting credit cards. The second method is processed in real-time using an online clearance company such as Beanstream or Paypal.
