How much does a website cost?

There are quite a few factors that are going to affect the ultimate cost of your web site. These factors include the number of pages you are going to have, if you will sell products on your website, the graphic work involved, and how interactive your web site will be for site visitors. You will also need web hosting and domain name registration.

Websites are an ongoing process. In addition to the initial costs of a website, your website will most likely need to be updated frequently and improved as new technologies or web standards change. Do I need to hire a "local" website designer?

We work with clients from all over the world. By using the Internet, email and the telephone, it is possible to communicate effectively with clients in any location. If you prefer the telephone as a means of communication please don't let long distance charges stop you. If you would like more information about our company, serivces, or would like to get started with your project and long distance phone calls are an issue just send us an email with your phone number and a brief message and we will call you free of charge.

How long does it take to have a web site designed?

The timescale of a website design project is often dictated by the client. If you have a deadline in mind we will endeavour to meet it for you. The most common delay in the creation and completion of a new website is waiting for content (text/images) to be sent to us by the client.

What is site maintenance?

Most good web sites have new content updated regularly. Fresh content is what will keep your visitors coming back and new content will always help with search engine rankings. We provide site maintenance as an optional service for our clients. If you want to maintain your website yourself you can do so, however we have found that most of our clients prefer to focus on what they do best (running their business) and leaving the website maintenance to a website design firm.

We offer website maintenance as both a fee paid monthly or on an hourly rate on a project to project basis. Your website can be updated daily, monthly, or yearly depending on the nature of your business and your budget. Why can't I find my website in the search engines?

Once your site has been submitted to the top Search Engines they may require several weeks, or even months to actually spider and list your web site in their directory. How fast your site is listed depends on each individual Search Engines database update schedule.

We suggest you use services such as Search Engine Marketing and Search Engine Optimization if you want to increase your page ranking in Search Engines. Site submission will get your site listed in the Search Engine website but does not guarantee position, rank, or guarantee visitors. Additionally, you should be marketing your website and your business at all times, in all places, and in all ways in order to achieve the best results. Web Site Content - What Do I Put On My Site?

That would depend on the goals of your business. There are three main things that you can do with your website:

  • Provide free information, products, or services
  • Sell information, products, or services
  • A combination of both of the above

The best thing to do is determine exactly what you would like to do with your website before attempting to determine what to put on your website. For example, if you own a construction company and you are trying to gain more customers and increase efficiency in your offices then you may consider a website that:

  1. Provides information about your company to win customer confidence
  2. Provide a user-friendly and free quote request form that allows your office to easily process estimates and win contracts
  3. Provide visitors with an easy to understand price list for your services with detailed descriptions about your products and services

What is a domain name?

A domain name is your website address (ie. www.yourwebsite.com). They can be purchased from a variety of places online and they range in price. For more inforamation about domain names and pricing, please visit our domain names and hosting page.

What is web hosting?

A web host is a company that has computers that are hooked up to the internet 24/7. These computers are called servers and they are assigned IP numbers in order that they may be found by other computers hooked up to the internet. It is on these servers that all your web files are stored, be they HTML files (web pages), graphic files, CSS files, Javascripts or whatever.

Basically what happens is when you type a website address into the address bar of your browser and then hit Go, your browser sends out a request to 'get' that web page. The request travels across the internet to the appropriate web server and attempts to locate the web page on that server. If the request is successful (web page exists) then that web page will load (or download) into your web browser.

Every website requires hosting in order to be accessible on the world wide web.

Can I use my own web hosting?

Yes, you can use any web host you like. Once your website has been completed you will have to provide us with your web hosting ftp login username and password so that we can upload your website for you.

If you are using our e-commerce platform or our monthly maintenance package you will be hosted on our servers for free so there is no need to purchase hosting from anywhere.

Do you offer any type of discounts?

Yes, we offer discounts for schools and non profit organizations. Also, you will find several discounts and specials during certain periods of the year for various products.

Do I have to have a business or tax license number?

No, you do not have to show or possess a business or tax license to have your website designed, order printing products, or sign up for one of our website solutions/products. Although it is not a requirement to have a business or tax license to operate a website, it is a requirement for running a business and we recommend obtaining one from your governmental institution so that you can legally operate your business and take advantage of the benefits that come with a registered business.

We are a registered and licensed business and we do collect both GST and PST from our clients for services and products. If you would like to take advantage of particular business benefits such as tax exemption on purchases then we will require your tax exemption number and/or a copy of your vendors permit or other business documents (if necessary).

Will we need to have a meeting or consult?

In the majority of cases a meeting isn't necessary and most of our websites are generally completed with contact via email and telephone only. We place suggested website designs onto the Internet in a private place where only yourselves and our staff can view the content. We then communicate with you regularly to discuss the web designs in order that the website design and functionality is exactly as you wish.

In what format should I supply words and photographs?

It is helpful to us if you are able to provide text and photographs in electronic form - for example, the files output by a digital camera and the words in MS word or similar format. If this is not possible, we can help get your information ready for use on the website.

Photographic images should be at least 72 dpi resolution in RGB format but it is not required to exceed this resolution for the web. If your photos are destined for our printers then we require a resolution of at least 300 dpi in CMYK format.

Text can be sent in Microsoft Word, PDF, Plain text, or email format. We will not accept other types of documents without charging a conversion fee of $25 per document to make the content web-ready.

Video destined for the web should be sent in either DVD, AVI, WMV, SWF, or MPEG formats with a high-quality resolution. Video size, orientation, and format should be appropriate to what your desired specifications are for placement on the website.

Will my website design be" Search Engine" friendly?

All our websites are created with search engines in mind and the website design is compliant with search engine guidelines. It is a good idea for your website to be re-evaluated in time as over a period of time the search engines do alter their rules and algorithms and you will want to be certain that your website is kept up to date and complies with new rules etc.

Are there hidden costs associated with web design?

No. We discuss with you your website requirements and then price accordingly and once you have placed an order for your website design with us, that price is strictly adhered to. If you require modifications or work above the initial agreement, we will discuss and quote the new project or work separately with you. We keep you involved through the entire process and we do not believe in hidden fees.

How do I update my website?

There are many different methods which can be used to update websites. The method you choose and the functionality we build into your website design is solely up to yourself although of course we will be glad to advise you which method will suit your needs.

If you have a small website consisting of just a few pages and will only wish to make changes very infrequently, then usually it is more cost effective simply to ask Creative Designs to carry out these changes for you. Other methods which are frequently chosen are largely dependant upon how much data or information and pictures you have and how you store this information at present.

We can provide an on line content management system where you can either update individual products/pages/services or particular sections of your website. e.g. company news.

Alternatively we can provide functionality such that you can upload your entire product ranges to the website in one action using spreadsheets etc. We can also add databases if you wish.

Do I need a database on my website?

This will depend upon the amount of information you wish to be displayed on your website. If you have many products/services, then it may be advantageous to have a database incorporated into your website design. We will discuss this in detail with you and if a database is advised we will explain in detail exactly how this will work. We can tailor your website design to suit your specific requirements.

Will everyone see my web site the same?

Your website visitors will see some things differently depending on their browser, screen resolution setting and their individual computer settings and toolbars. We design sites with that in mind and preview them in several browser types and resolution settings before publishing. Obviously as technology alters then eventually all websites may need reevaluation.

Do you guarantee that my site will always be available?

No web hosting company can guarantee 100% uptime. However we can say that our servers have had 100% up time for many years. Should our servers have any problems we do have the necessary backups in place to deal with down time issues very speedily. We regularly upgrade our security configurations for our web servers. During these upgrades your website may briefly become unavailable (usually for 3-4 minutes) while we install new hardware/software. All of our hardware/software upgrades take place between the hours of 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. EST (usually on a Sunday/Monday night) so that the possibility of your website visitors attempting to access your website is far less likely. We do send our clients notification prior to upgrades so that you can anticipate the possibility of a 3-4 minute down time.

Do you use Flash animation in your website design?

Yes we do use flash as and when required. It is important to note that there are times when flash animations can be an asset but it would be unwise to use "flash" to create an entire website or even entire pages of your website as search engines are not able to read the content of flash and therefore any words used in animations will not be indexed by the search engines.

Generally it is best to use flash for smaller banners, advertisements or demonstrations and incorporate the flash animation into a web page which also includes some written text. This way the search engines will be able to index your information

Can I get e-mail with my website?

Yes you can have email with your website. With our hosting accounts you receive unlimited email addresses.

Can I see how many visitors I've had to my website?

Yes we provide web tracking software which records where you visitors are coming from and which pages they looked at, which search engines are being used, which phrases are being typed into which search engines and many more interesting web tracking facts which you should find useful for future marketing campaigns.

Can I have an e-commerce system for my website?

How can I accept credit cards on my website?

There are various methods availably to you. We would need to talk to you to established you requirements and the best method for your company. There are essentially two main methods of accepting credit cards. The first method is where you use your own pdq. card machine and process the card payment yourself and the second method uses an online clearance company. Once you are sure which method you wish to use, we can design your website accordingly.

What if I do not like the design?

If you do not like the design which we have suggested for you, we will discuss further with a view to ascertaining what type of design you would like to see and then place another "suggested design" in your web area for you to view. Our aim is to design for you a website specific to your requirements which you are completely happy with.

Who owns the website once the website design is completed?

The completed website belongs to your company. This is the case for all of our work (logos, websites, advertisement design etc.) except for specified products (ie. EZ-Merchant and EZ-CMS) which are retained by Creative Designs as specified in the associated contracts or agreements.
