Website file submission guidelines and specs

Not sure what to send or how to get it to us?

We have specifications and guidelines set for file submissions and content delivery to make the design and development process efficient and consistent. Below you will find information regarding what types of files we require/allow (including type, size etc.) as well as the methods for delivery or drop-off of the documents/files.

Photos and images

When sending photos and images it is best to ensure that the filenames follow some sort of structure, pattern, or organized classification.

e.g. homepage01.jpg, homepage02.jpg, homepage03.jpg

That way when you prepare your other documents for the website you can include references to these images and they will be easy to locate.

e.g. Welcome to ABC company where you always receive the best service (insert homepage01.jpg) and products.

File sizes should be at least 72 dpi resolution in RGB format for the web. As for the size (width and height), that is not as important as the resolution. If you would like the image a specific size on the website please specify the size. We require the images in one or more of the following formats: jpeg, jpg, gif, bmp, psd, png, tiff.

You can deliver the images by email, postal mail, drop-off in person.

If you are sending files for printing, all of the above applies except the file sizes should be at least 300 dpi resolution in CMYK format.

Text

When sending text it is best to ensure that the filenames or the headings within the document(s) follow some sort of structure, pattern, or organized classification.

e.g. homepage.doc, contactus.doc, services.doc

-- or --

e.g. homepage section, contact us section, services section

That way your site content will be easy to locate and understand. The more organized your website content and information, the easier it is for our team to organize and structure your website so that it will be easy for your site visitors to find what they are looking for on your website in a user-friendly way.

The number of pages and file size of your text documents is determined solely by your desired website design. We do not place any limitations on the number of pages for your site; therefore we do not put any limitations on your text documents. We only ask that you use a font that is common to most machines (a default font like arial) and that you use a standard size for the fonts (ie. 11pt or 12pt).

We require the text documents in one or more of the following formats: Microsoft Word (doc, docx), plain text, pdf.

You can deliver the text documents by email, postal mail, drop-off in person.

Font Types and Web Safe Fonts

We have been asked many times why people always use Times New Roman or Arial on their websites. Unfortunately, the reason is very simple as there are only a handful of fonts that look similar and are installed by default on both Windows and Mac computer systems. As a result, these "browser safe fonts" find their way into almost every website design. We've created a list of the 10 safest website fonts as well as offered methods of making web-safe fonts even safer.

Taking into account several font surveys on the Internet, the following list of fonts make the top 10 "safest" fonts to use in website design:

  1. Verdana
  2. Arial
  3. Arial Black
  4. Comic Sans MS
  5. Courier New
  6. Georgia
  7. Times New Roman
  8. Trebuchet MS
  9. Century Gothic
  10. Impact

Using one of these fonts greatly improves your chances that your web pages will display properly regardless of the operating system and/or browser.

To make web-safe fonts even safer, we specify alternatives in our CSS using a list of fonts as backups in the event that the user doesn't have a particular font installed on their system.

  1. font-family: Calibri, Arial, Helvetica, Sans-Serif
  2. font-family: Cambria, Georgia, "Times New Roman", Times, Serif
  3. font-family: Candara, "Trebuchet MS", Sans-Serif
  4. font-family: Consolas, "Courier New", "Lucida Console", Monospace
  5. font-family: Constantia, "Palatino Linotype", "Book Antiqua", Palatino, Serif
  6. font-family: Corbel, Verdana, Sans-Serif

When sending documents to us, it is best to send us the text using one of these fonts so that your documents are legible and will display the way they will on your website pages.

Multimedia (video or music)

When sending video or music it is best to ensure that the filenames follow some sort of structure, pattern, or organized classification.

e.g. introsong01.mp3, introsong02.mp3, introsong03.mp3

Video destined for the web should be sent in either DVD, AVI, WMV, SWF, or MPEG formats with a high-quality resolution. Video size, orientation, and format should be appropriate to what your desired specifications are for placement on the website.

Music destined for the web should be sent in mp3 format at the level of quality that you desire..

You can deliver the video or music by email, postal mail, drop-off in person.

Additional Fees and Conversion Fees

We will not accept other types of documents or files other than those specified above without charging a conversion fee of $25 to make the content web-ready.
